The Volkswagen ID.GTI Concept's Unveiling

While drivers around Bentleyville, OH, have already seen GTX branding for sportier versions of the ID.4 and ID.5, the Volkswagen brand is taking steps towards an all-electric model that will own the GTI name. The Volkswagen brand unveiled the ID.GTI at the IAA auto show in Munich as a concept car. However, a production version is slated in Europe, and the ID.GTI is also under consideration for sale in the US.

The ID.GTI concept is essentially a peppy version of the ID.2all concept that Volkswagen previewed earlier this year. The ID.GTI shares the same bodywork as the ID.2all and uses the Volkswagen brand's new MEB Entry platform, which is smaller than the existing MEB platform and uses front-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive.

Exciting Performance

If the ID.GTI comes to the US, you can expect exceptional handling and fun-to-drive performance around Chagrin Falls, OH. While the Volkswagen brand hasn't released any power figures, the ID.GTI concept will have an electronically controlled limited-slip differential for enhanced traction and offer dynamic modes. A simulated sound system can replicate historic GTIs, such as the original 1976 Mk 1 and the 1986 Mk 2 16-valve version.
